Pleasure and being out of your mind.

By Anna-Thea | May 11, 2010

Recently I was asked by a student at a workshop of mine… what do you mean by “in your body?” It was really great for me to have my student ask that. I realized how many people have probably never even experienced being in their bodies. I have spent most of my life doing anything that I can to get out of my head and into my body because that is where I always found peace. It takes time energy and effort. Yoga, deep breathing and sacred dance have been my great tools to get me there. Otherwise I just can’t be present in my relationships and it causes disaster! Not clearing your mind regularly causes disaster in bed. My mind is like a race track and just doesn’t quit. I remember an old boyfriend once telling me I have a bee in my bonnet. Another old boyfriend said, you can’t do enough exercise to get out of your head. My husband luckily hasn’t mentioned similiar statements but he does says “boy are you emotional”. I don’t know if women realize how much they are spending and living their lives up in their heads… intellectualizing, pondering, fearing, worrying, creating intense emotions etc. The effect…. often no pleasure in bed! This mind of ours, as women is FAST, FURIOUS and FILLED with activity. Moreso than men. It is just the way we were designed. That is why if you, as a woman want to experience intimate pleasure with your partner it is import to know the difference of being in your head verses your body. That is a good start. To answer my workshop participant’s question of what do you mean by being in your body I would like to say…. If you are being intimate with your partner and you are worrying about the kids coming in or the laundry, then you are in your head and not in your body and you are missing out on pleasure. If you are being intimate with your partner and you are worried about how your body looks instead of how your body feels, then you are in your head and not in your body and again… missing out on pleasure. We as women really need to find ways, much moreso then men, to SLOW DOWN and get that mind to rest. It is called WOMEN’S MIND MAINTENANCE. I think Yoga will really improve your sex life. I am going to go and do some yoga today…. how about you? What are you going to do today to get that bee out of your bonnet?
